Astrophysicist, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Anton Biryukov told whether people can survive on other planets.

The expert explains that there are many planets in the Universe that are similar in properties to the Earth.

“Now that we already know 4.5-5 thousand discovered exoplanets, we understand that about 20 percent of stars similar to the Sun have a planet similar to the Earth next to them. There are a lot of them, perhaps tens of thousands of planets, where it is good enough for us, or even much better,” – said the expert in an interview for the YouTube channel “Seryozha and Microphone”.

An exoplanet or extrasolar planet is a planet outside the Solar System. Assuming there are 200 billion stars in the Milky Way,mit can be hypothesized that there are 11 billion potentially habitable Earth-sized planets in the Milky Way, rising to 40 billion if planets orbiting the numerous red dwarfs are included.

The Russian astrophysicist suggests that on other planets the seasonality of the seasons may not be so pronounced, which usually causes discomfort to many inhabitants of the Earth, and there may also be more stable weather.

“If we live peacefully and for a long time, then there are chances to fly to other planets. We, of course, have a certain barrier – this is the speed of light. Light on the scale of the Universe is not the fastest thing, because it takes four years to fly to the nearest star, and it will take more than a hundred thousand years to fly to the other end of the Galaxy,” said Biryukov.

The discovery of exoplanets has intensified interest in the search for extraterrestrial life. There is special interest in planets that orbit in a star’s habitable zone, where it is possible for liquid water, a prerequisite for life on Earth, to exist on the surface.
