CID takes over investigation into death of Suvendu Adhikari’s security officer Subhabrata

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday took over the case of Subhabrata Chakraborty’s – Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s security officer- death.

Chakraborty’s wife, Suparna, had filed a complaint, which the West Bengal Police started a probe into, on Friday. Adhikari’s bodyguard died in 2018; police had then opened a murder case against unknown persons in connection with the unnatural death. Now, they have registered u/s 302 & 120B of IPC, following the fresh FIR by Chakraborty’s wife.

A jawan from the Armed Forces, Chakraborty worked for Adhikari for over seven years. In 2018, he was grievously injured in the police barrack of Contai, with bullet injuries on his head. He passed away in a private hospital in Kolkata.

Suparna claims that she had doubts about her husband’s death, but was unable to take any action as Adhikari is a powerful man in the state.

In addition to the FIR, Chakraborty had also filed a written complaint to the police, in which she wrote, “Suvendu Adhikari was a powerful leader in the state and a minister. So, we did not have courage to file a complaint against him. I have two young daughters and I was scared.”

A fresh complaint has also been lodged against Adhikari’s close aides Rakhal Bera, Swapan Das and Himanshu Manna.

Reacting sharply on the matter, Adhikari claimed it to be a political game played by the Trinamool Congress.
